From Past to Present: Buldan Weaving
Textile production in Buldan, a district of Denizli, is the present-day continuation of a deep-rooted weaving tradition that has endured for centuries. The history of textile production in the region dates back through the Ottoman, Byzantine, Roman, and Hellenistic periods.
Research conducted in Buldan by the Turkish Academy of Sciences in 2001 uncovered parts of weaving looms dating back approximately 1,500 years, demonstrating just how far back the region's weaving heritage extends.
Ödel Buldan is one of the brands that keeps this rich tradition alive and carries it forward to future generations.
Ödel Buldan: From the 1950s to Today
The foundations of Ödel Buldan El İşlemeleri were laid in the 1950s by İbrahim Ödel. İbrahim Ödel gave a new interpretation to Buldan weaving by transforming traditional local textiles known as “üzlük,” “peştamal,” and “yarım” into table and side-table covers, napkins, and a variety of home textile products.
With this approach, Ödel Buldan became a pioneer in bringing traditional weaving and embroidery arts together with home textile products and, over time, became one of the brands closely associated with the name of Buldan.
From Traditional Handicrafts to Modern Homes
Ödel Buldan El İşlemeleri has been recognized by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Türkiye as the Denizli representative in the field of handicrafts. Our products have also been exhibited many times at international fairs by the Ministry to promote Turkish handicrafts abroad.
By combining the inspiration we draw from traditional Buldan weaving with evolving lifestyles and approaches to interior decoration, we now offer more than 1,000 product varieties. While preserving the craftsmanship and weaving culture of the past, we continue to transform this heritage into distinctive and timeless designs suited to today's homes.
Our Commitment to Handcraftsmanship and Local Production
Ödel Buldan is not only a textile brand, but also a local production network that contributes to the continuity of Buldan's traditional manufacturing culture.
In addition to our in-house employees, we provide employment opportunities to approximately 300 families through outsourced production carried out in local homes. In this way, we help preserve the weaving and handicraft knowledge passed down from generation to generation in the region while supporting local employment.
From Buldan to Türkiye, and from Türkiye to the World
Approximately half of our products are exported, while the other half reach consumers across different parts of Türkiye. Ödel Buldan products have been available for more than 60 years through leading hypermarkets and retail locations in Türkiye, as well as in long-established and traditional commercial centers such as Istanbul's Grand Bazaar.
Together with our sister company, Denizlipek Tekstil Üretim ve Dış Ticaret Ltd. Şti., we conduct commercial activities with many countries around the world, particularly Spain, Italy, Greece, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Hungary, Romania, Russia, Ukraine, Poland, the Czech Republic, Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Japan, China, India, and Australia.
